Deworming
To simplify giving a horse dewormer or any paste medicine, Rex places a halter on the horse. Then Rex runs a loop of the lead rope through the bottom part of the halter underneath the jaw and into the horse's mouth, like a bit. The rope acts much like a bridle bit, and the horse will mouth the rope and concentrate on it, which makes it easy to place the paste tube into the horse's mouth and release the medicine. Be sure the horse is untied when doing this, to avoid injury should the horse pull back, and hold on to the lead rope to maintain control.
