Kyle Partain

Associate Editor

Kyle Partain

Kyle Partain is an associate editor for Western Horseman magazine. He oversees The Arena section of the magazine and covers Western events ranging from rodeo to ranch-horse versatility. Kyle has worked in the rodeo/Western industry for a dozen years, with prior stops at the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and the National High School Rodeo Association before joining Western Horseman.

Kyle was just a few feet from the arena gate when Ty Murray claimed his record-setting seventh all-around championship at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in 1998. He watched three-time world champion Will Lowe (and countless others who are now perennial NFR qualifiers) compete in high-school rodeo. He’s interviewed and written about rodeo greats ranging from Phil Lyne to Larry Mahan to Flint Rasmussen.

In his five years at Western Horseman, Kyle has won two first-place writing awards from American Horse Publications. The first was a a feature about a blind team roper. The second was a firsthand account of his trip to the 2007 Calgary (Alberta) Stampede.

A city kid most of his life, Kyle was a sports editor for daily newspapers, including the Stephenville (Texas) Empire-Tribune. During his brief time in Stephenville, he became a fan of rodeo thanks to former Tarleton State Univeristy Rodeo Coach Bob Doty. Kyle lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with his wife and young son.
