In 1988, Hitching Post Supply began by offering high quality mane and tail horsehair and books to teach the lost art of hitching and braiding. Since then we have expanded our commitment to western heritage by bringing you high quality horse gear, accessories, books and music. Ours is the pleasurable job of bringing together the “tools of the tradition” of vaquero inspired buckaroo gear.

HPS ships and is known worldwide for our large selection of high quality vaquero inspired buckaroo gear. Utilizing some of the finest makers of leather and rawhide, we carry products made to our exacting standards. These standards were achieved by extensive historical research, the oral history, and guidance of many excellent horseman over the years. Our handmade Californio line of bosals, bosalitas, mane hair mecates, get down ropes, hobbles, and rawhide reins are designed and used in making fine bridle horses. We worked with friend and bridle horse trainer Bruce Sandifer of Santa Barbara, CA and Mark Howes of Fort Collins, CO to offer both latigo and rawhide cheek bosals with a gap or space between the cheeks at the heel knot. Shortening the noseband, overall size and allowing less wraps with the mecates.

Our Cow Camp Collection by saddle maker Mark Howes is a stout, tough, properly sized, and is customizable. Spur straps, slobber leathers, martingales, saddle pockets and hobbles are all available in rough, smooth, or latigo leather with stainless or brass hardware.

We are one of the largest suppliers in the United States for bulk horsehair in both mane and tail hair. Horsehair, mohair cinch cord, kangaroo lace and the how-to books we sell are used in many crafts and traditional bunkhouse gear making. Tail hair is available from 18”- 44” in a wide variety of colors. Used to make tail extensions our very long horsehair can be seen on many world champion show horses and in the movies.

Hitching Post Supply sells hundreds of titles of specialty books dealing with horses, cowboys, vaqueros and buckaroos. Books for and about horseman, cattlemen, trail drives, Dutch oven cooking and classic westerns.

HPS is a one-stop for over 150 titles of cowboy and western music. We carry a complete selection of legendary singer, songwriter Ian Tyson's CD's, DVD’s, and books.
