Be a Better Horseman - Mike Major

Change and ControlRanch-Horse Versatility

Don’t always ride from the same small, slow circles to the same large, fast circles in the same place each day. Your horse can learn the pattern. Always keep him gathered and framed, but mix up things. Lope a small, slow circle in one corner, a large, fast one, and then go down the arena and change your speed before you lope another circle. Then lope diagonally across the pen and change your speed again. That’s taking control of your horse, and there’s no pattern to it. That’s probably more interesting for your horse, too.
