Twombly Performance Horse Sale
September 18, 2010 • Near Scottsbluff, Nebraska
In 1989, Twombly Performance Horses began selling horses, specializing in pretty, colored performance geldings. What makes their business unique is that all the geldings are ridden on their ranch by Dan, Alies, John and Tia Twombly who, combined, have more than 100 years experience riding performance horses. According to Dan, the definition of performance is a well-broke, gentle-minded horse that works off a loose rein. With that in mind, the family buys, rides and promotes every horse they sell.
Twombly Performance Horses holds two sales at their ranch each year—one in May and one in September. On-line videos of their horses are available before each sale and show how well each horse rides in the pasture and in the arena, as well as showing how the horse works in team roping.
“We always try to have a few so well broke that they can ride bridleless,” Dan Twombly says.
Twombly Performance Horses stands Zan It, an own son of Hollywood Dun It. Buyers can watch for Zan It’s foal crop at Twombly’s September sales, and they’ll see lots of color on those babies.
“Eighty percent of his foal crop is colored, and they’re clean and refined, with big hips,” Dan says. “They’re very smart, easy to train and athletic.”
